Varad Fortress

A fortress on a rocky summit at almost 1,500 m above the upper Arda, used by Thracians, Byzantines and Bulgarians. The route passes the thickest beech tree in the area, and on clear days you can see the Greek mountains of Bozdag and Kushnitsa. The trail from Mogilitsa is 19 km long, marked in red, and takes 7 to 8 hours.
